How this calculator works

Annual commuting miles equal one-way commute distance multiplied by two, weekly commuting days and weeks worked. Other weekly driving is annualised over 52 weeks. One-off holidays and additional journeys are then added.

Use a realistic weeks-worked figure if you take leave or frequently work from home. An insurance estimate should reflect actual expected driving, not a deliberately understated number.

Common questions

Should annual mileage include commuting?

Yes, if you use the car to commute. Insurers may ask separately about the type of use, such as social, commuting or business use.

Why are other weekly miles multiplied by 52?

Regular non-work driving can happen throughout the year, even in weeks when you do not commute. Adjust the input if your pattern differs.
