How this calculator works

Annual vehicle energy consumption is mileage multiplied by kWh per 100 miles. We apportion it by the home percentage, price each share at the relevant tariff and add them. This is a vehicle-energy estimate, before any additional charging losses or flat connection fees.

If charging losses are significant, use an appropriately higher kWh/100 miles figure or run individual charging sessions through the EV charging cost calculator.

Common questions

Does the 80% home figure refer to sessions?

It is best used as an energy share, not a percentage of charging sessions. A short top-up session and a full overnight charge do not contain the same energy.

Are standing charges included?

No. Standing charges paid for the household electricity connection are excluded from these marginal charging costs.
